'St Mary of the Cross'- Blessed in Shona stone!

After four weeks of tireless effort, with only a hammer and chisel, sculptor Stephen Murenza brings out 'St Mary of the Cross' blessed in Shona stone!

The sculpture depicts Mary Mackillop and a child reading a book. Her guiding hand, leading the child through a life of education and spiritual teachings.

When completed in the next few weeks, the sculpture will start its journey from Zimbabwe to its new home at Lumen Christi College Pambula, New South Wales.

'St Mary of the Cross'- the journey continues!

From a single piece of Springstone quarried from the 'The Great Dyke' of Zimbabwe, master sculptor Stephen Murenza makes an outline in charcoal as he begins the sculpting process.

Using only a hammer and chisel in the traditional Shona method, the stone starts to take on the appearance of  St Mary of the Cross with a child. The sculpture is dedicated to Mary MacKillop, the great educator and founder of the catholic education system in Australia.

Clarendon Homes select Shona sculpture!

Clarendon Homes have selected a contemporary Springstone sculpture 'Destination Unknown' by artist Edmore Sango as the centrepiece for the their new sales office extension at Stanhope Gardens.

Award winning landscape architect, Kieran Devlin from KMD Outdoor Constructions says he was looking for a strong focal point for the design which incorporates a treated steel plate backdrop, water feature and landscape gardens.

Kieran, said the installation 'exceeded the clients expectations' and the Springstone sculpture was a big part of that.
